Through the years, the association has represented major apparel manufacturing firms, majority of which are foreign investors operating facilities in strategic economic zones all over the country. CONWEP has also taken under its umbrella local firms engaged in the manufacture of other wearable such as shoes, travel goods and leather goods such as handbags, purses, wallets, etc. For this reason, the new name of the association will be CONWEP replacing ‘garments’ with ‘wearables.’ It will be duly registered with the Philippine Securities and Exchange Commission.
On a daily grind, the Confederation monitors the programs to ensure that a sustainable and competitive business environment in the country are synchronized with global developments. Moreover, CONWEP alerts and recommends to the national government possible directional plans that will augment the country’s edge as a lucrative manufacturing base.
